Oakland Light Factory presents monthly shows of digital art, moving image, video, and new media work in Oakland. We program monthly projections at The Great Wall, situated at Broadway and Grand in the heart of artwalk. In addition, we work with artists in the Bay Area and beyond to commission new work, present special events, and host community workshops teaching artist-in-residence program in local schools.

We are accepting submissions for our 2017-2018 season. The call has been extended to April 15th!! Submit proposals, specific work, and projects of digital art, moving image, video, and new media work. We offer modest screening fees, and work with artists to fund larger commissions and projects. (Examples of recent projects include Maya Gurantz’s A Hole In Space and Mobile Arts Platform’s On The Road).

Works can be screened on our 100x100 foot urban projection space in Downtown Oakland. We’re particularly interested in site-specific installations that engage with the physical space of the projection, and the building’s location in the public streets of Oakland. This year, we’re also programming a number of off-site projects that engage with other spaces throughout Oakland and proposals for self-contained pieces that could be exhibited elsewhere.

We’re open to a broad range of projects including experimental works, interactive projects, works that combine performative elements, and content that includes technologies such as projection mapping, augmented reality, generative projects, 3D works, and animation.

Submit projects exploring a broad range of themes and topics, including (but not limited to): text-based work, performance, projects exploring local history, pieces with a social component or which include audience participation, interactive projects, immersive cinema, landscape works, and expanded cinema. Note that as the main projection space is on a very busy street during high-traffic Art Walk, works that rely heavily on sound are difficult to execute, but may be appropriate for off-site events. If your work had specific sound needs, please note this in your application.

Works will be reviewed by our curatorial committee, and selected entrants notified by June 2017 for programming beginning in September 2017.
